Manitoba Cottage Lots

Almost 600 cottage lots have been released by the Manitoba government. Prices range from $3500 to $85,000.

Less than half of the lots are actually new releases. The others were passed up on in the last cottage lot draw.

Beer at the Cottage

Beer at the cottage is about as common as beer at a bar. Just watch some Canadian beer commercials in the summer and you will know what I mean.

A good thing to try is to ask all guests to bring their beer in cans. Cans are much easier to take away from the cottage (back to the beer store for deposit) and they won't break. A broken beer bottle is more than a mess, it can be dangerous to those in barefeet. You will get some resistance from those who insist that beer in a bottle is better, but keep working on them.

Enjoy responsibly!

Disposable Stuff Not Allowed!

When you're at the cottage or renting your cottage, make it a policy or cottage rule that no disposable cutlery, cups, plates, etc. are to be used.

Disposable items are a big waste. They make a lot more garbage that you ultimately have to lug to the curb or to the dump. Less of this means more fun time at the cottage.

Of course, this may not be easy to enforce when you are not therem but most will listen if you simply remind them. And be sure ot have an adequate supply of dishes and cups available.

Oilcloths from Oilcloth International

The oilcloths from Oilcloth International are very much like the one people remember from the 50's but new and improved.

They are primarily a wonderful tablecloth fabric but can be used for many items such as the lunchbags, "sit upon," totes and aprons. It is wipe clean and goes a long way in decorating. Oilcloth International have lots of fruits, florals, ginghams and other charming prints.

A great cottage product!

Muskoka Wildlife Centre Passes Zoo Test

In an audit grading Ontario Zoos, the Muskoka cottage crowd will be happy to know that the Muskoka Wildlife Centre in Severn Bridge made the grade. It was one of only four that passed the audit out of a total of 16 Ontario zoos.

The audit looked at public safety and the treatment of animals, among other things.
